2024 JAMB holds cut-off mark and admission policy meeting July 18th

JAMB has scheduled the Policy Meeting on Admissions into Nigerian Tertiary Institutions for Thursday, July 18, 2024. Other important players in the education sector will be present at the meeting, which will be presided over by Hon. Minister of Education Prof. Tahir Mamman.

These key players include, among others, the leaders of the nation’s postsecondary institutions, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and regulatory organisations like the National University Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and National Council for Colleges of Education (NCCE). The admissions policy meeting establishes the framework for the admissions process and admissions rules for a given year. It also sets the acceptable minimum admissions standards for all tertiary schools in Nigeria for the specified year, as well as application statistics and candidate performance evaluations.

The Registrar will provide updates on the recently completed Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the current Direct Entry (DE) applications during the exercise. Additionally, key performance indicators will be analyzed, which could influence the government’s policy directions regarding admissions. Stakeholders would also be informed of the important issues that surfaced during the previous year’s admissions process during this meeting.

In order to establish the minimum admissible score for the current year, the policy meeting would also consider the candidates’ performance in the UTME. Recall that parties involved had decided on the minimal admission standards for universities, polytechnics, and education colleges the year before.

The meeting would also establish the year’s admission requirements and initiate the current year’s admissions process. It would also address outstanding matters from the previous academic year and evaluate stakeholders’ adherence to current advisories, proposing additional changes as needed. We will provide you with all the information from the meeting that day, as usual.
